Ellie Goulding incorporates acoustic and pop into the genre of her music making her style of music unique . This is reflected through her music advert as the medium close up of her depicts natural beauty in that she has natural make up yet with a subtle hint of glamour as shimmery gold glitter lights are used in her hair. The album name the magazine advert is promoting is called ‘Lights’ therefore it could be suggested that the shimmery glitter lights used in her hair are a connotation of the title of her album. The image used on the magazine advert is Ellie Goulding herself, this highlights to the audience that she is promoting herself. It could be suggested that Ellie Goulding is appealing to the male gaze as her pose (hand behind her head and looking into a distance) is seductive which will therefore be likely to attract a male audience. On the other hand the naturalness of the image and the colour gold highlights femininity which is a feature that could attract a female audience as they are able to relate to the features displayed. The overall magazine advert visually looks like it is cluttered yet is mainly overtaken by the image of Ellie Goulding this convention is used to make the audience look twice at the magazine advert. It could be also suggested that the magazine advert links into Ellie Goulding’s song Starry Eyed which is in the album Lights , the video itself contains the same ‘sparkle’ as the album cover which allows the audience to establish a cross reference of the song and the magazine. The colours used throughout the advert are mainly gold and black. The colour gold connotes wealth, superiority whilst black is more formal, and it suggests that these qualities are prominent in her album. The gold colour is also a play on words as her surname ‘Goulding’ is similar to the colour gold.
The typography
used in the magazine is a curvy font. This is particularly shown for the letters E and G.  This gives the copy a sophisticated look and helps it to blend in with the rest of the features on the advert. It also makes it different from the rest of the typography used; therefore her name is more noticeable which a useful component as it is likely to stay in the audiences mind when and if they are buying her album. The opinion of this magazine is trusted as it has been rated by important people in the music industry, audience are therefore more likely to purchase the album as they believe it will reflect the opinions of those who know a lot about the music industry. The website for the album is also placed at the bottom of the advert in order for audiences to obtain more information about the album. The idea of cross media marketing is used by advertising the website in the magazine. Having the promotion online as well as in a magazine is an effective way of promoting the album to a mainstream audience; consequently the record label and artist receive more revenue.
The logo of the record label she is signed on to is printed at the bottom of the poster. The company is well know
n for producing well known artists therefore this makes Ellie Goulding appeal more the audiences.
The back of the album cover incorporates the same theme as the front cover in that it uses a black background amongst the white typography which shows the institutional information and the songs within the album. The contrast between the black and white enables the institutional information to stand out which is likely to catch the audiences eye.

The background of Maroon 5’s Cd album cover is plain black. This emphasises the white typography used in the album name and the band name. The album name is written in Arial font, which gives the album a cover a classy look. This feature also makes the album stand out, which is likely to catch audience’s attention. The band members are shown in a close up of only their faces. Each face is in a different colour. This is significant as it adds a contemporary pop element as the colours are suggestive of pop culture. It could therefore be differed that the music within the album is of a Pop genre. This suggests to the audience that the album consists of modern contemporary music. The album cover as a whole employs simple concepts which come together to create an unusual theme. The classiness and the sleekness of the album suggest that maybe the target audience for the album is adults as it is fairly sophisticated. This is reinforced by the band members  who are themselves of an older generation thus older people are likely to buy the album as they can relate to the artists. The album name ‘Call and Response’ is a play on words as it could suggest that the ‘Call’ is the actual music and the ‘Response’ is the audience listening to the music.

The back cover of the album uses three main colours. Institutional information is written in white Arial font as is the name of the album. As the background of album back cover is in sepia the white written information stands out. The names of the songs in the album are written in red Arial font, this too amongst a sepia background stands out. The background is a close up of Rihanna’s face. The close up highlights Rihanna’s lips which are full and glossy. This highlights feminism as lips are a female connotation. Rihanna’s eyes also stand out amongst the back of the album cover; this makes her look intent and intriguing a feature that could draw audience’s attention. Women will be able to relate to Rihanna and she is presented as sassy and confidence therefore will seek to imitate and emulate her. The way in which Rihanna is presented could suggest that her target audience is late teens to early adults.

Good Girl Gone Bad is Rianna’s third studio album which was released in May 2007. The background of the cover is plain black with a white low key spot light coming from the bottom left hand corner. The background is very simplistic which portrays class and elegance. The shot of Rihanna is a long shot which brings out her womanly assets thus attracting the male gaze. The low key lighting also emphasises Rihanna’s legs which again attracts the male gaze.  Rihanna is posed almost as an ‘S’ shape in that her head starts at the top right hand corner and her legs end at the bottom left hand corner. The way in which she is posed is alluring and sexual as her long legs and bum are emphasised. The low key lighting also brings out Rihanna’s costume; leotard suggesting that the music in the album are going to be Ballad based. The title of the album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ could suggest that the music in the album is about Rihanna’s life story and the trials and tribulations she faced establishing herself as an artist. The album name is behind the black background. This is useful as it makes the album name stand out amongst the rest of the album. Rihanna’s name is written in Arial font across the album cover in a large font size. The colour of her name is turquoise whilst the rest of the album cover is in black, white and grey. This puts a large amount of emphasis into who Rihanna is as her name stands out amongst the rest of the album cover. Whilst Rihanna’s clothing denotes a ballad theme, her makeup is styled in an R&B associated fashion, which could suggest that the music in the album is a fusion of R&B and Ballads.
